MinTeeGolf
A downloadable game
MinTeeGolf
MinTeeGolf is an arcade crazy golf game for classic Commodore Amiga hardware, featuring simple controls, colourful courses rendered in real 3D, computer opponents and increasingly ridiculous obstacles.
Take your shot, judge the angle and power, bounce the ball off walls, use obstacles to your advantage and try to finish each hole in as few shots as possible.
Play by yourself, against computer opponents, or with up to four local players.
Features
- Real-time 3D crazy golf with flat-shaded polygons, copper-gradient skies and a hazy horizon
- 18 complete holes
- Play all 18 holes, the front nine, back nine or a quick three-hole round
- 1–4 players
- Human or Human + computer-controlled players
- Four computer opponents, each with its own playing personality
- Multiple joysticks supported, or pass one controller between players
- Ball-to-ball collisions — knock an opponent away from the hole, or accidentally putt them in!
- Windmills
- Bumpers
- Boosters
- Sliding gates
- Teleporters
- Tunnels
- Sand traps
- Water hazards
- Castle obstacles and portcullises
- Power shots
- Joystick, mouse and keyboard controls
- Original theme music
- Automatic detail selection based on your Amiga
- Graphics-card / RTG support
- Dedicated benchmark disks
- Runs on real Amigas and emulators
Hardware
MinTeeGolf is supplied in three versions.
2 boot from floppy images - Workbench launch should work
And one LHA for workbench allowing RTG launch via Tooltypes on 020 build
68020 (OCS/AGA/RTG) Edition
MinTeeGolf.adf
Designed for 68020 and faster Amigas.
Minimum
- 68020 CPU
- Fast RAM strongly recommended
Recommended
- 68030 @ 50 MHz with Fast RAM or faster
The 68020 edition also supports RTG graphics cards and systems such as PiStorm.
OCS Edition
MinTeeGolfOCS.adf
A special version built for the original 68000 Amigas.
Supported machines include:
- Amiga 500
- Amiga 500+
- Amiga 600
- Amiga 2000
- 1 MB RAM minimum
- Kickstart 1.2 or later
Yes — the complete game and all 18 holes can run on a 7 MHz 68000 with 1 MB of RAM.
It isn't fast.
Expect roughly 1–3 FPS, depending on configuration and detail level.
For much smoother gameplay, a 68020 or faster processor is recommended.
Workbench Edition / RTG
MinTeeGolfWB.lha
Launch the program from Workbench, allowing RTG mode to be used
Tooltype RTG instead of NATIVE on 020 build.
OCS build is also included in the Workbench edition.
Approximate Performance
| Machine | Edition | Approx. speed |
|---|---|---|
| A500 / A600 — 68000 | OCS | 1–3 FPS |
| A1200 — 68020 + Fast RAM | AGA | 5–6.5 FPS |
| 68030 @ 50 MHz + Fast RAM | AGA | 25–35 FPS |
| 68060 / PiStorm / fast emulation | AGA | Very smooth |
Performance varies depending on screen mode, detail level, memory configuration and hardware.
MinTeeGolf automatically selects a suitable detail level at startup, which can then be changed manually.
Benchmark Disks
Two additional bootable benchmark disks are included:
MinTeeGolfBench.adfMinTeeGolfOCSBench.adf
These boot directly into the MinTeeGolf benchmark and are intended for comparing real Amiga hardware, accelerators and emulator configurations.
If you're running MinTeeGolf on unusual real hardware, I'd love to hear your benchmark results.
Development
MinTeeGolf also became the test bed for Ami3D, my reusable 3D engine/framework for the Commodore Amiga.
Ami3D is intended to provide a common foundation for future arcade-style 3D games, including projects such as bowling, archery and other sports titles.
The goal is simple: make colourful, responsive 3D games while still remaining practical on genuine Amiga hardware.
MinTeeGolf was developed primarily using Claude Code and ChatGPT, with additional manual development and debugging in Visual Studio Code.
The Amiga builds are cross-compiled using GCC 16.2-rc13.
The original MinTeeGolf theme was composed by me in Mixcraft Studio 10, exported through MIDI/audio and then adapted into an Amiga MOD arrangement.
Development and testing have included:
- Amiga 1200 + TF1260
- CD32 + TF330
- Amiga 600 + PiStorm 600
- WinUAE
- Amiga Forever configurations covering machines including the A1000, A500 and A2000
A considerable amount of optimisation has gone into making the game practical across very different generations of Amiga hardware.
Release Status
Release build
The complete 18-hole game is playable and feature complete.
There may still be occasional bugs, strange physics, unusual bounces or computer opponents making extremely questionable golfing decisions.
Future releases may include additional courses, graphical improvements, gameplay refinements, performance improvements and new features.
Feedback and results from real Amiga hardware are very welcome.
Platform
Commodore Amiga
Both main editions are supplied as bootable .ADF floppy disk images.
No Workbench installation is required.
Insert the disk.
Boot the Amiga.
Play golf.
